Keyword optimization is a very important part of site optimization and making your site increasingly visible to the public. For beginners in the world of Hybrid SEO, keyword optimization can feel like a never-ending task when you follow popular seo techniques from the past.
If your site is relatively new or even if your site has been online for many years, if your SERP rankings are low and your site authority is low, ranking well for popular search terms will be very difficult. Keyword optimization is how we rank better in the SERPs right? Keyword optimization does play a role in your SERP rankings, but only if you are optimizing correctly.
Search engines rank sites based on two variables, relevance and authority. The relevance of a site is based on how accurately the content including; title tags, header tags, meta tags, anchor tags, and all the keywords match the search being performed. Authority is based on inbound links and the authority those links hold. In short, if your site authority is low, then ranking for popular keywords will be very difficult.
When you begin your keyword optimization, shoot for keywords that have less competition. Now you need to make sure those keywords are still related to your industry, but search for keywords that have less demand. Narrow your topic down until you reach a market that has less competition. Sure, in a smaller market you will have less potential visitors, but you will also have a greater chance of ranking well in the SERPs for the search terms you have selected.
Once you begin to grow your site and increase your site authority, you can begin to compete for the more popular keywords. Search and site optimization is a full-time battle that requires knowledge, skills, patience, and perseverance.
When you optimize your site for keywords, be realistic about your competition and find a piece of the market you can claim for your own. Once you have staked your claim, you can then begin to think about expanding your territory.
